Longtime Fenton Fire Chief John Moulton Dies in His Home
Moulton died Wednesday evening at age 66.

One of Fenton’s finest died Wednesday in his home.
Chief John Moulton died of cancer at age 66.
"He was more of a dad than a fire chief to me," said Fenton Township Battalion Chief Ryan Volz. "It hasn't really hit home yet. He was an awesome dude that taught me a lot of stuff. He will be missed."

Volz said firefighters and some of Moulton's family gathered for a vigil Wednesday night.
"It was a special moment," he said.

Moulton joined the Fenton Township Fire Department in 1985 and was named chief in 1993. Moulton graduated from Lake Fenton High School in 1963 and was a U.S. Army veteran, according to his obituary with Sharp Funeral Homes.
His friends said he touched many lives.
“It was quick and caught us all by surprise,” said Fenton Fire Chief Robert Cairnduff, who had known Moulton for 20 years. “John was a straight-forward guy. You knew where you stood with him. He didn’t beat around the bush.”
“Chief John Moulton was highly respected in our community. Our residents showed how much they loved him when they found out he was ill. John said to me 'I never knew how many friends I had until now,'" Fenton Township Supervisor Bonnie Mathis told the Fenton Press.
“John was a kind, giving man, always had a smile and willing to do anything he could for anyone in need,“ longtime neighbor Rick Ham told the Tri-County Times. “I am very sad to lose such a good neighbor and friend. I will miss him.”
Many people have posted their condolences on his obituary page.
“Sorry for the sudden loss of John, he was a great man to all. Would always give advice. John will be missed by a lot in the community he served and will still serve from up above. Would like to express my condolences and also on Behalf of Mt Morris Twp Fire Dept.,” posted Mt. Morris Fire Chief Scott Hillerman
Steven Ostrander posted, "I just got to know you the last few years. I always looked up to you and regarded you with utmost respect. Rest in peace Chief."
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at , 600 N. Adelaide St., with Chaplain Gerald Woodruff officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at and Saturday from 12 p.m. until time of service at the church
