Four Graphic Design students at Mott Community College earned Silver Awards at the American Advertising Federation of Greater Flint’s ADDY awards Feb. 25 vis Facebook. The awards were virtual again this year due to COVID restrictions.
James Naegle, of Mt. Morris, earned three Silver Awards. He won in the category of Publication Design for “Just A Sip At A Time,” in the category of Poster for “12 Angry Men,” and in the category Elements of Advertising - Photography for ”Me, Myself and I.”

A student team from the MCC Design Center also earned Silver Award for designing Special Events Materials used to promote the 2022 AAF-GF American Advertising Awards. The design team was made up of James Naegle, of Mt. Morris, Lucas Giampa, of Flint, and Gavin Williams, of Swartz Creek.
Additionally, three MCC students majoring in Graphic Design won 2022 American Advertising Federation of Greater Flint Student Scholarships of $500 each. The winning students are Bridgette Kirby, of Flushing, James Naegle, of Mt. Morris, and Paige Thomason, of Fenton.
Professional Award
James Shurter, MCC Graphic Design Program Coordinator, earned a Silver Award for Special Event Materials he designed for “FOMA Disc 4 Arts.”
“I am very proud of our students,” said Shurter, “for many of them this is their first experience with professional recognition and it serves to validate their hard work.”
The MCC associate’s degree in Graphic Design builds upon the foundation skills of the visual arts blending innovative visual and creative design to prepare students for a career in Graphic Design.
The MCC Design Center is a class that offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experiences under controlled conditions while undertaking their regular coursework in Graphic Design. Similar to an internship, the course creates a college-based design studio where clients submit design projects for development. Students will be expected to contribute to all aspects of development of client projects.
AAF-Greater Flint has a mission to promote professional interaction and growth, integrity, and creativity, while supporting a vital advertising and marketing community in/around Genesee County, Michigan. The AAF-GF connects members; protects and promotes advertising at all levels of government; educates members on the latest trends in technology, creativity and marketing, and recognizes creative excellence in advertising through the ADDY Awards and other accolades.
