Mott Community College has received Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF) funds from the federal government that enable the College to forgive students’ unpaid tuition and fees balance for the Winter 2020 (Jan-May 2020), Summer 2020 (May–Aug 2020), Fall 2020 (Sept-Dec 2020), and the Winter 2021 (Jan-May 2021) semesters.
MCC will offer students this one-time forgiveness effective immediately. Past due balances will be removed from student accounts and credit monitoring agencies. This does not apply to student loans. Additionally, student account holds will be removed allowing students with past due balances, for the designated semesters, an opportunity to enroll for classes, view their information in Backpack, and request official transcripts.

“We are so pleased to be able to utilize HEERF funds to give our students some financial relief during the pandemic,” said MCC President, Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea. “This will allow students who have had difficulty keeping up with their payments to continue their education uninterrupted,” she added.
On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (H.R. 1319) into law. The $1.9 trillion package, based on President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, is intended to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, including the public health and economic impacts.
The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III is authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), signed into law on Dec. 27, 2020. Part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act or, CARES Act, passed by Congress on March 27, 2020. HEERF is part of the efforts to provide fast and direct economic aid to the American people negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
