The homeowners told police a man had tried to sleep in their front yard, and when they requested he leave, the man became argumentative and obnoxious, Aro said. Police arrived to find the man walking down George Street. Aro said officers reported he had slurred speech and poor balance. He was given a preliminary breath test, which revealed a blood-alcohol content of more than 0.16. The legal limit is 0.08.

According to reports, he was arrested for disorderly intoxication and was taken to the Fenton Police Department, where it was discovered that the 25-year-old Fenton resident had two outstanding warrants with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department.

He was jailed overnight and was given a notice to appear in court.

Man arrested on charges of stolen cigarettes

Police arrested a 46-year-old Burton man on charges of larceny. He is suspected of stealing cigarettes.

Aro said employees at the Speedway station at 3340 Owen Rd. told police that at 4 a.m. May 28, a man asked for a carton of Newport cigarettes and then grabbed the carton and ran out the door. Employees reported that he fled in a white Buick Rendezvous, and they were able to give police a possible license plate number.

On the next day, May 29, Aro said a police officer in the Flint area had heard about the larceny and observed a vehicle that matched the description. The officer contacted the Burton Police Department, which obtained the vehicle's registration information and contacted the individual, who confessed to the theft and to other thefts across the county, Aro said.

The case has been forwarded to the Fenton City Prosecutor’s Office.
