87-Year-Old Woman Carjacked At Dollar Tree In Oakland County: Police
A man has been arrested in connection with the carjacking, according to police.
ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP, MI — A man was arrested Sunday after carjacking an 87-year-old woman in Oakland County, according to Michigan State Police.
The incident happened at 12:55 p.m. at a Dollar Tree parking lot along 8 Mile Road in Royal Oak Township, according to police.
Police said the man took the keys from the woman's hand and got into her car. At least two witnesses tried to intervene but were unsuccessful, according to police.

The man drove through the Kroger parking lot and turned north on Wyoming Avenue, according to police.
Police said a witness followed the car, but lost sight of him. Later, the witness found the car in an apartment parking lot near the 10000 block of Pasadena Avenue, according to police.

Using video footage, investigators saw the suspected car thief entered an apartment from the parking lot. They then searched the apartment and talked to its occupants, learning the suspect was living at a relative’s home in Detroit, according to police.
Officers went to the home and arrested the man in connection with the carjacking, according to police.
Angelo George Mitchell, 28, of Detroit, was charged with one count of carjacking and one count of unarmed robbery. He was placed in the Oakland County Jail without bond.
He could be sentenced up to life in prison if convicted of carjacking.
