Alt-Right Catholic Group To Host Christmas Event In Ferndale
Church Militant To Hold Noel Night At City Hall

A group described by Metro Times as “alt-right and ultra conservative,” the Church Militant, will host a Christmas celebration outside of Ferndale City Hall tomorrow night. The group notably made headlines in 2015 when members towed a statue of the angel Michael to an area outside a Church of Satan event that unveiled the other religious group’s new statue, which depicts the Satan-like Baphomet surrounded by happy children.
The Church Militant was founded by Michael Voris, recently profiled by Vice news as “a self-proclaimed ex-gay man” and leader of the “Catholic alt-right.” After what he describes as “confusion” that led him to date men, Voris credits the Church Militant with helping him become completely heterosexual. According to a Facebook event page, the Church Militant’s Noel Night celebration will include “apple cider, hot cocoa, and caroling,” along with a chance to "offer public witness to Christ.”
The group is meeting in front of Ferndale City Hall on 300 E. Nine Mile Rd. from 6 to 7 p.m. Other recent activities by this Ferndale-based group include denouncing the Southern Poverty Law Center, picketing a “pro-gay” Catholic priest’s winter commencement address at Misericordia University and a video responding to t#MeToo, the recent movement against sexual harassment and assault, that the Church Militant promoted with the tagline “Put some clothes on.”
