Check Out 'Salute to America' on Saturday

Ferndale residents Owen DeLano and Caira Castelli were among those who got to meet the Greenfield Village vintage baseball team during the "Salute to America" concert and Fourth of July celebration, which continues Saturday in Dearbon.

Hundreds of people throughout Michigan descended Thursday on Greenfield Village for the 21st annual "Salute to America" concert to celebrate America's Independence Day.

Led byย Maestro Leonard Slatkin, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra performed a selection of patriotic tunes, including "Star Spangled Banner," "America The Beautiful" and "God Bless America."

The concert also included performances byย theย 1st Michigan Colonial Fife and Drum Corps. andย the River Raisin Ragtime Review. The nightโ€™s festivities concluded with Tchaikovskyโ€™s 1812 Overture and a live display of cannon fire and fireworks.

The 21st annualย "Salute to America" continues Saturday, with gates opening at 6 p.m. Ticketsย range from $12 toย $50. Tickets may be purchased by contacting The Henry Ford at 313-982-6001, or online atย www.thehenryford.com/salute.
