Dear Ferndale Families,

Find out what's happening in Ferndalefor free with the latest updates from Patch.

We are planning ahead for approximately 500 of our school district staff to receive their second doses of the Covid-19 vaccine on Saturday, March 20.

We know the second dose of the vaccine is more likely than the first to produce side effects such as fatigue, chills, headache, muscle aches and pains, and fever. While research says most side effects are mild to moderate, some people (as many as 20-30%) experience severe side effects, defined as those that affect their ability to do daily activities like coming to work.

We want to make sure our staff has appropriate time to recuperate. We want to avoid a situation where we have more staff unable to come to work than we have substitutes to cover for them. And we want to give you, our families, plenty of notice about a change of plans. Therefore, we are announcing that Monday, March 22, will be a fully remote learning day for all students except those who need to use our safe remote access sites. (Since our AA cohort of students had one more in-person day than our BB cohort, this change of plans will not create inequity between the two groups.)

If you have questions about our plan for March 22, please contact your building principal.

All my best,

Linda

Dr. Linda Quinn, Superintendent
Ferndale School District
