Ferndale Woman Hit By Car, Injured While Crossing Street: Police
A Ferndale woman was injured Thursday afternoon after she was hit by a car while crossing a street in Royal Oak Township, police said.

ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP, MI β A Ferndale woman was injured Thursday afternoon after she was hit by a car while crossing a street in Royal Oak Township, according to Michigan State Police.
Troopers said the elderly woman was crossing a street in the area of Wyoming Avenue and 8 Mile Road at 3:30 p.m. when she was hit by a Lexus SUV that an elderly man, also from Ferndale, was driving.
The elderly woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where her condition was unknown, but officials said she suffered "obvious head trauma from the impact."

Troopers do not believe speed or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
Officials did not release the names or ages of the victim or driver.

"It is important that we all share the road as a driver, pedestrian or bicyclist," Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw said. "As a vehicle driver we must make sure to give pedestrians the right of way to cross the street safely while in the crosswalk. This could have been a lot worse."
