Michigan Girl Drowns In Hotel Pool During Cheerleading Competition

The 9-year-old girl was in Illinois for a cheerleading competition when tragedy struck.

HIGHLAND PARK, MI — 9-year-old Adriana Douglas of Highland Park traveled to Illinois for a cheerleading competition. The getaway weekend ended in tragedy when Douglas drowned in a hotel swimming pool.

Around 5:53 p.m. on Nov. 19, police and fire officials were dispatched to the Double Tree Hotel at 5000 W. 127th Street in Alsip, Illinois on a report of an unresponsive girl found in the pool.

The victim, Douglas, was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Care Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Douglas died roughly a half hour later. Police do not believe foul play was a factor.
