New Charter School in Ferndale Hosts Meeting Tonight

Great Lakes Anchor Academy plans to open in the St. James School building at 22111 Woodward Avenue in Ferndale.

An informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14 for a new charter school looking to open in Ferndale in the fall.

Great Lakes Anchor Academy is being opened by Walled Lake mother and elementary school teacher Amy Niebert.

The meeting will be held at the St. James School building located at 22111 Woodward Avenue in Ferndale.

Niebert said the meeting will provide an overview of the proposed public school academy and offer a question and answer session. Light refreshments will be served and there will be a drawing for an iPad for all participants.

The school, which would be the first parent-started school in Michigan, would open with 300 sixth graders and involves a partnership with the Naval Sea Cadets under the U.S. Navy.
