Mott Community College’s Fine Arts Gallery will present an exhibition of paintings by Andrew Rieder from Jan. 10 through 25. The exhibit is titled “Absolved of Essence Through Obsolescence,” and will feature mixed-media works on canvas.
In addition, Rieder will give an Art Talk 10 a.m. Jan. 14. These talks are e available through the MCC Fine Art Gallery page (www.gallery.mcc.edu) and made possible in part by the Ballenger Trust.

Andrew began working in the Great Lakes Bay Region of Michigan in 2010 where he continues to teach at Delta College as an Associate Professor of Art & Design. His Academic Credentials include a Master of Fine Arts from Michigan State University, a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a Bachelor’s of Art & Design NC State University’s College of Design.
His work has been featured in Exhibitions throughout the country including Paul Collins Gallery, Saginaw Art Museum, Lillian Davis Hogan Gallery, Shiawassee Art Center, Studio 23, Buckham Gallery, and the Alden B. Dow Museum. These works aim to explore the concept of work ethic and the various ways in which it is quantified.
Artist statement:
“This series of mixed media pieces conveys to the viewer that many (if not all) of us are contending with a sense of insufficiency. I also want the audience to gain an understanding of how one's own struggles can at times be too overwhelming to empathize with the struggles of another.”
