Mott Community College’s (MCC) Fine Arts Gallery will present a retrospective exhibition of clay works by Guy Adamec from Oct. 18 to Nov. 2. The exhibit is titled “45 Years of Clay In Flint" and will be comprised of approximately twenty pieces of ceramic art. In addition, Adamec will give an Art Talk on October 29 at 10 am. The talk will be available through the MCC Fine Art Gallery page (www.gallery.mcc.edu) and is made possible in part by the Ballenger Trust.

Guy Adamec received his Master’s Degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art and has been working as a fire master for over forty years. He has taught ceramics and pottery in the Flint community at many institutions including Mott Community College, Mott Adult High School, and was Artist in Residence for Kearsley Community Schools.

Adamec has taught at the Flint Institute of Arts for more than twenty-five years. He has been associated with galleries, museums, and numerous private studios. He continues to do public art, with newer pieces in Grand Blanc's Rust Park, and his latest piece housed in Rogers City Michigan. His work is also part of the permanent collection in the Flint Institute of Arts and is on display in the Contemporary Clay Gallery.

These ceramic works are a retrospective of clay art, representing Adamec’s life and career as an artist. Adamec states, “My views on making ‘ART’ over the years have slowly evolved into something that is finally becoming clear…Making things SHOULD be about the energy between the artist and the piece he is working on. Not ‘Why am I making it?’ Not ‘Will anyone else like it?’ Especially not ‘Will it sell?’ If one masters his craft and knows in his heart he has done his best, then something good will happen.”

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, there will be limited capacity in the gallery and all ART Talks will be virtual. All visitors are expected to follow the MCC Standards and perform the Mandatory Health and Wellness Check before they travel to MCC. Please visit mcc.edu/reopen for up-to-date information.
