Six artists from MCC, two faculty, and four MCC Art alumni, will be featured in Reuniting, a multicultural art exhibit featuring artists from Flint and Grand Rapids that opens Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Muse in Grand Rapids from 4 to 7 p.m. The exhibit runs through Oct. 29. Gallery hours are Mon., Wed. and Fri. from noon to 3 p.m., and Tue and Thurs. from 4 to 7 p.m.

The works reflect on life and events of the last two years. “After a long period of separation and division due to the pandemic as well as culturally and politically, the exhibit represents hope that we can live united despite our differences,” said Marvin Dabideen, Curator.

Jjenna Hupp Andrews, Associate Professor of Studio Art, submitted two related pieces, Suffer the Little Children: Almost Immune and Pandemic: Weight Bearer (BUT MY RIGHTS!). Both involve masks brought home every day by her husband, an essential worker. The masks included in this installation represent the span of time from July 2020 to Oct. 8, 2021.

Elizabeth Sevick Cassleman, MCC Fine Arts Gallery Coordinator and adjunct faculty member, has a piece that reflects her meditations on art and nature.

MCC Art alumni with works in the exhibit include DeMarcus Smith, Pauly M. Evertt, Isiah Lattimore, and Sifus Thompson, all of Flint.
