Here are the top three stories in Grand Rapids today:
- On Saturday, Jun. 11, a Grand Rapids motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash during the early morning hours. According to police, they received reports just before 2:30 a.m. of an accident that involved a motorcycle and car on US-131 and Wealthy Street. The 45-year-old motorcyclist was in bad shape, but no other details have been released. (WOODTV.com)
- The Michigan Innovation Summit recently was held at the newly renovated Book Depository after the U.S. Economic Development Administration announced that a "tech hub" could be placed in the state as a federal investment. At the summit, four contenders were featured with different economic focuses including fresh water in northern Michigan, battery production in Grand Rapids, applied research in Lansing, and added mobility in southeast Michigan. Since there are multiple regions competing against each other to win the finds, this could increase the state's chance of being chosen. (Detroit Free Press)
- On Saturday evening, five teenagers were arrested for two different incidents that took place this weekend in downtown Grands Rapids. Reports of the incidents came in just after 9 p.m. of a large group of disorderly individuals gathering near Oaks Street and Ionia Avenue. As police arrived on the scene, one teenager attempted to disarm a Grand Rapids police officer's taser and another teenager joined in to help, but both were eventually arrested. (MLive.com)
