Here are the top three stories in Grand Rapids today:
- After 30 years of working in public education, Northview Public Schools Superintendent Scott Korpak officially announces he will be stepping down from his position. The superintendent shared the news with family and community members via email, and says he hasn't finalized where he's headed next, but it will likely not be with public education. In the meantime, Christina Hinds will serve as the interim superintendent since Korpak will be leaving the district by next month. (MLive.com)
- A 27-year-old man in Grand Rapids has been arraigned after he was accused of shooting and killing a woman in the downtown area. According to recent police reports, Luis Fabian Bernal-Sosa was arraigned on Saturday for the murder of 22-year-old Leah Gomez after she had returned to pick up their daughter from his residence. Gomez was on the phone with an acquaintance throughout the entire incident, so he was able to confirm what happened during the incident. (WOOD-TV)
- A professor from Grand Rapids Community College will be showing off her cooking skills on an episode of the Food Network's hit show "Chopped." Jenn Struik, who teaches in the college's culinary program, says she had been preparing for this her entire life and can't wait for the community to see her episode air on Wednesday, Jun. 27. In addition to her experience in culinary arts, Struik also runs her own business in Grand Rapids and had the opportunity to work as a dietician in a variety of different hospitals. (WZZM)
