• 'No one's going to be getting out of here': Flooding leaves neighbors cut off from busy street (fox17online.com) — Flooding along Reeds Lake Boulevard at the East Grand Rapids–Grand Rapids Township border has closed a key stretch of road and walking path, disrupting drivers and heavy pedestrian traffic. Neighbors say the low-lying area floods often, while the Kent County Road Commission is monitoring conditions and suggests alternate routes via the Beltline or Hall Street.

• Construction soon to start on 18 single-family, luxury homes near Grand Rapids (mlive.com) — New luxury single-family homes are coming soon to Walker, just north of Grand Rapids and close to Blandford Nature Center, after the city granted final approvals. The 18-home Pheasant Preserve subdivision will feature custom builds, new public streets, sidewalks, and a tree preservation buffer, with construction on the first houses expected to start in late January.

• 40% of Kent County Kids Overweight or Obese, Report Says Newsradio WOOD 1300 and 106.9 FM (iheart.com) — Forty percent of Kent County children, including many in Grand Rapids, are overweight or obese, exceeding both state and national rates. A new county report pinpoints higher obesity levels in Grand Rapids and nearby communities, with notable racial and insurance-based disparities, to guide future programs that improve access to healthy food and physical activity.
