Detroit Man Arrested In Grosse Pointe Armed Robbery: Prosecutors
Multiple schools in the area were thrown into lockdown Thursday as officers searched the area for the suspected robber.
GROSSE POINTE FARMS, MI — A Detroit man was charged in connection with an armed robbery at a Grosse Pointe Farms food market that triggered school lockdowns in the area last week, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
Harold Edward Smith, 53, was charged with armed robbery. He was placed in jail with a $150,000 bond. His next court date was scheduled for Feb. 28. If convicted, he faces anywhere from tens years up to life in prison.
Prosecutors said Smith walked into the Village Market grocery store just off Mack Avenue at 7:42 a.m. Thursday and took multiple bottles of alcohol without paying.

When a store clerk confronted him, Smith pointed a fake handgun at the employee as he ran out the store, prosecutors said.
