Flood Closes South's Boll Athletic Center 'Until Further Notice'

Athletic Director Jeremy Hawkins discovered the flooding while preparing for a college signing event about three weeks ago. The water has been removed but the cause is still be investigated.

's Boll Athletic Center is closed until further notice after portions of the lower level flooded a few weeks ago, Athletic Director Jeremy Hawkins said.

The flooding was discovered when Hawkins went into the lower level to prepare one of the rooms for a college signing for an athlete, he said. There is one area of a hallway that frequently has a small amount of water but as he later discovered, the flooding was extensive--spreading into the IA building and a storage area, he said.

Hawkins stepped into the flooded area to find the water was ankle-deep but others who came to work on the problem discovered some areas were knee-deep or slightly deeper, he said.

The water has been removed but school officials are still trying to determine the cause of the flooding, he said. A problematic drain might be to blame, he said, explaining he is still waiting for the more official word from a plumber.

Hawkins does not yet know when the center will be reopened, he said.
