Grosse Pointe Man Intentionally Rams Box Truck Multiple Times: Police

GROSSE POINTE, MI — A Grosse Pointe man is in trouble after police said he intentionally crashed into a billboard box truck multiple times earlier this summer.

The driver of the billboard box truck driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

William Michael-Louis Matouk II, 36, was charged with malicious destruction of personal property (ten-year felony), assault with a dangerous weapon (four-year felony), lying to a peace officer (two-year felony) and failure to stop after collision (90-day misdemeanor).

He was placed in jail with a bond set at $50,000. If released, he cannot talk to any witnesses, he must turn in his passport and seek permission before leaving Michigan. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 16.

Police said Matouk intentionally drove a Chevrolet Express van into a billboard box truck near Mack Avenue and Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods on June 30.

He then backed the van up and hit the truck two more times before fleeing the scene, police said.

"We take this case very seriously. By allegedly using his vehicle as a weapon, the defendant put lives at risk, and it is fortunate that the injuries sustained were not more severe. We are committed to ensuring justice is served," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said.
