Grosse Pointe Park Couple Injured In Attack By Stray Dogs: Police

The couple told police they were walking their dog, a chocolate Labrador retriever​, Friday when their were attacked by the stray dogs.

GROSSE POINTE PARK, MI — A Grosse Pointe Park man and his wife were injured Friday after they were attacked by two stray dogs, according to police.

Police said the couple was walking their dog, a chocolate Labrador retriever, in the 1300 block of Beaconsfield Avenue near Vernor Highway at 5:45 a.m. when a pair of stray canines attacked the Labrador.

As the couple tried separating the dogs, the stray canines attacked them, biting them both and the Labrador, police said.

The man suffered minor cuts, while the woman required medical attention, police said. Officials said the Labrador suffered a small puncture wound from a bite but is expected to recover.

The couple told police the stray dogs were pit bulls, one black and one brown. They told officers they last saw the strays running north on Beaconsfield, police said.

The attack comes after Grosse Pointe Shores originally passed a controversial ordinance in September banning pit bulls in the city, but later repealed it.
