Grosse Pointe Woods Detective Investigates Fight Between Teenagers

The following information is gathered from the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

police took three teenage girls into custody Oct. 13 after they were identified by several people as being involved in a fight in an alley in the 1900 block of Vernier Road.

Dispatchers received several 911 calls regarding the fight and information about one woman lying on the ground and three others running from the scene. Harper Woods firefighters responded to the scene to assist the 13-year-old victim, who had injuries to her lip, face and had neck and back pain from being slammed to the ground.

She was taken to an area hospital mainly to address the neck and back pain complaints, Woods Sgt. Raymond Yonkowski said. Her injuries were minor in nature overall, he said.

The teens, ages 17, 14 and 14, were found and arrested outside of their home in Harper Woods a short time after the fight. When an officer mentioned the fight, one of the teens told him the victim hit her first, according to the report. All three were taken to the police station and were later released to their father.

While on the scene of the fight, the victim identified the teens as her attackers, according to the report. Responding officers also talked to several witnesses who were in the area and then went into the Grosse Pointe Public Library Woods Branch.
