Grosse Pointe Woods family wins $3,000 worth of college tuition
Michigan Education Trust How We MET sweepstakes prize is part of the state's prepaid tuition program's 30th anniversary celebration
GROSSE POINTE WOODS – A Grosse Pointe Woods mother of two has won $3,000 worth of future college tuition in the Michigan Education Trust’s (MET) monthly “How We MET” Sweepstakes drawing.
Sally Ann Dean, who with her husband, Michael, has children ages 17 and 14 in the Grosse Pointe Public School System, won a $3,000 Pay-As-You-Go contract from MET, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary as the nation’s first prepaid tuition program by awarding a total of $30,000 to 10 families in 2018 through its How We MET Sweepstakes.
Dean said the winnings will add to the MET prepaid tuition they have already purchased to help fund the college education of daughter Alexandra, a senior at Grosse Pointe North High School. The Deans are making contributions to a Michigan Education Savings Program account to save for college for their son, Noah, who is in eighth grade.

In September – in recognition of National College Savings Month – it will randomly draw two winners on Sept. 18 and announce them no later than Sept. 21.
The sweepstakes are open to Michigan residents 18 and older who will have children ages 0-17 as of Sept. 30, 2018. They can enter at MET4College.com.
MET’s Pay-As-You-Go option allows purchasers to buy prepaid tuition in credit hour increments rather than on a semester basis, which requires a greater upfront investment. Pay-As-You-Go contract holders can purchase additional prepaid tuition with contributions of as little as $25.
MET also sells contracts through lump sum and monthly purchase plans.
Beyond the sweepstakes, MET will stage a variety of anniversary activities under the “How We MET” banner throughout the year. The theme is meant to highlight the higher education journey thousands of families and students have taken during the past 30 years with MET’s assistance.

About MET
Administered by the Michigan Department of Treasury, MET is Michigan’s Section 529 prepaid tuition program that locks future tuition at any of the state’s public universities and colleges at today’s rates. MET contracts are portable to out-of-state and Michigan private colleges and universities, may be transferred to other eligible family members and are refundable if the student does not attend college. More than 96 percent of high school graduates with MET contracts have attended a college or university.
