National Weather Service Issues Tornado Watch
The watch lists several counties, including Wayne, and remain in effect through 1 a.m. Thursday.

Severe thunderstorms producing quarter-sized hail and high winds could result in a tornado, according to a watch issued by the National Weather Service.Â
A series of alerts, including a hazardous weather outlook and a severe thunderstorm warnings, began being issued earlier in the night warning of the possibility. Most of those had expired but a new warning was issued again at 9:58 p.m.
The newest warning is for northern Monroe and southern Wayne counties through 11 p.m. The severe thunderstorms could produce damaging winds of up to 60 miles per hour. The storm is moving east at about 35 miles per hour.Â

Although a tornado is "not immediately likely" severe thunderstorms with high winds can often turn into tornadic conditions quickly, according to the warning.Â
Should one be spotted, the National Weather Service recommends seeking shelter in a basement or small interior room and going to the lowest floor possible.Â

The first tornado watch included 14 southeastern Michigan counties, including Wayne, and the most recent watch includes 8 of those counties, still including Wayne as well as Macomb, Oakland and Monroe counties.Â
