GPPSS starts work on strategic plan (candgnews.com) — Grosse Pointe Public School System is launching a new three- to five-year strategic plan and wants direct input from residents, parents, staff, and students. You can join focus groups or complete an anonymous online survey through Jan. 16, helping shape how the district sets priorities and spends limited resources in the coming years.
   

2. May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Christine Matthews, OP (detroitcatholic.com) — Grosse Pointe–born Sr. Christine Matthews, OP, has died at age 89 after nearly seven decades of religious service with the Adrian Dominican Sisters. Family, friends, and fellow sisters can attend visitation and funeral services in Adrian on December 16–17 or join via livestream, honoring her long ministry in education and church leadership across several states and abroad.
   

3. Judge draws scrutiny for texting juror in Grosse Pointe sailor's trial (freep.com subscription) — A Grosse Pointe Farms sailor convicted of sexually assaulting a minor in Oscoda County is seeking a new trial after a court clerk reported that the judge texted with a dismissed juror and appeared biased toward the defense. The judge denies any bias and cannot publicly comment on the pending case, while appellate lawyers push for her removal and access to any judge–juror texts.
   

4. Negotiations break down between Corewell, new nurses union (crainsdetroit.com subscription) — Nurses at Corewell Health East, including those at the Grosse Pointe hospital, are locked in tense contract talks with the system after union leaders accused Corewell of withholding raises and benefits given to nonunion staff. Corewell disputes the claims, saying the union hasn’t presented economic proposals and that bargaining will resume in January, leaving local nurses’ pay and benefits unresolved.
