Police Blotter: Injuries to Farms Man, 79, Under Investigation

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the battery of a 79-year-old man after being called back to a house on Moross Road where they had only left a short time earlier on a domestic battery call. The responding officers found the 79-year-old man, who suffers from dementia, standing in a neighboring driveway without shoes or socks and wearing only a thin pair of pajamas. It was 32 degrees outside and he told officers his daughter-in-law had kicked him out. Officers approached the house, and it had been secured from the inside, meaning it could not have been the man who did it. The man was taken via ambulance to an area hospital, where doctors discovered he had a fractured left wrist, elbow and shoulder. The hospital contacted social services to get involved and Farms police were informed about the injuries. When officers were at the house the first time on a domestic battery call, they arrested the man's son. At that time, the left the 79-year-old man with the daughter-in-law, but she told police before they left she did not want him in the house because he urinates in the bathroom sink. The couple had been arguing about the father residing in the home when she called police for the domestic battery, according to reports.

Harrassing Calls Under Investigation

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating harassing telephone calls a 63-year-old resident has been receiving by a man demanding $2,500 cash from her. The woman told police she's received 18 calls from the man, who has an accent, in the last month. He tells her if she wires him the cash, then she'll be awarded $3 million. He has also threatened the resident, saying he'll come to her house if she does not pay, according to a report.

Car Stolen from St. John's Lot

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the theft of a car from the parking lot at St. John's Hospital. The vehicle was parked near a fence about 6:45 p.m. Feb. 16 and when the owner returned about 8 p.m., it was gone. Officers did not find any broken glass at the scene, according to a report.

Domestic Battery Arrests

Grosse Pointe Farms police took a 16-year-old resident into custody Feb. 16 after his mother called to report that he was threatening others with a knife. Responding officers interviewed the mother and the son, who denied threatening anyone and said he was upset with his mother because she accused him of smoking marijuana. Officers took him into custody, according to a report.

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 21-year-old resident Feb. 14 for domestic battery after she assaulted her older sister. The sister and the mother told police the woman came downstairs, punched the 25-year-old sister in the face and then pushed her against a table hard enough to knock down a lamp, according to a report.

Drunk Driving Arrest

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 53-year-old resident for drunk driving Feb. 15 shortly after midnight. The man had been reported missing by his wife, but he was found a while later driving near Mack Avenue and Moross Road. Officers stopped the man and when they approached him, he smelled of alcohol. He completed some field sobriety tests successfully and some unsuccessfully. The man had a 0.12 percent blood alcohol content, according to a report.

Forgery Warrant Ends in Arrest

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 23-year-old Detroit woman on a felony forgery warrant out of Warren during a traffic stop. An officer stopped the woman near Kerby and Mack Avenue for having a broken taillight. During the stop, the officer discovered the warrant, according to a report.
