Police Blotter: Officers Respond to Calls for Help

police helped a Virginia man to a gas station Aug. 2 after his 1997 GMC van ran out of gas in the 1100 block of Lake Shore Road. They received a call about a disabled vehicle and a responding officer discovered gasoline was the problem. The man left the area after refueling his van, according to a report.
DamageÂ
A 53-year-old Columbus, MI, woman reported damage to her windshield to Grosse Pointe Shores police. The woman told officers she drove past Shores Department of Public Works employees who were using weed whackers on Lake Shore Road Aug. 2 about 10:20 a.m. when stones were flung onto her windshield, chipping it. The DPW workers told officers they cleared debris from the area before beginning work and don't believe they caused rocks to hit her windshield, according to the report.

Trapped
Grosse Pointe Shores officers helped free a 2-year-old boy from a locked bedroom in the 60 block of Woodland Shores Drive Aug. 2. The boy's mother called police because the boy had locked himself inside. The officers forced open the door. The boy was not injured, according to a report.Â

High Water
A Department of Public Works employee had to manually reset a pump July 30, 2011, shortly after midnight because of a high water level. The level set up off the pump's alarm and the employee needed to monitor it through the day with another visit, according to a report.
