Police Blotter: Vicious Dog Citation Issued

The woman told officers she was walking her mountain bernese dogs in the 1000 block of Lake Shore Road when a German shepherd came toward her and began attacking her and her dogs. The owner of the German shepherd said he left his dog outside unattended for just a moment and then heard a woman screaming. He ran out and found the woman and her dogs as well as his dog fighting with them. He restrained his dog and returned it inside. The woman was treated at the scene and taken to an area hospital, where officers took photographs of her injuries. She had wounds to her hand and arm and reported another one near her tricep the following day. The dog owner was apologetic to an officer and told the officer he understood why he was receiving a citation. A notice was also sent to Macomb County on the dog bite, according to a report.

Resident Believes Would-be Burglar Scared Off

A 59-year-old man reported early Friday an attempted break-in of his River Road home Feb. 9. The man said his son heard someone trying to enter the front door about 7 p.m. Feb. 9 using keys. He assumed it was his mother. After several minutes the person still did not enter but the son could still hear the keys outside. He asked if it was his mother through the door and when he got no response, the boy pounded on the door from inside and the person outside walked away. Only a few days earlier the mother noticed a man parked near their home who drove away upon her pulling in the driveway but he returned the spot after going around the block. The homeowners are worried their home is being targeted for burglary and asked for special attention by police, according to a report.

Loose Dog Captured

police took a loose dog that was part of a larger pack running through the city Feb. 9 to the . The young shepard/rottweiler mix was aggressive with officers after they cornered him against a wall in St. Paul cemetery about 4:30 p.m. The officers used a dog stick to get the dog into a squad car and transport him to the clinic. They also had to use the dog stick to remove him from the car. Officers had been tracking the pack of dogs throughout the day when this one broke away from the group and was captured in the cemetery, according to a report.

Drunken Driving Arrest

Grosse Pointe Shores police arrested a 25-year-old Hazel Park man Feb. 2 for drunken driving after a resident called 911 to report a crash near Lake Shore and Vernier. The responding officer found a car in the 900 block of Lake Shore that was smoking and had damage to the front end. When the officer approached, the driver smelled of alcohol. He could not complete field sobriety tests and had a 0.13 percent blood alcohol content, according to a report.

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 63-year-old resident Feb. 6 for drunken driving after another motorist came to the police station to report her car had been struck by the man on Masion and Roland near Mack Avenue. The officer began investigating the crash while the woman was there with the information the other motorist provided to her and when the officer contacted the man via telephone, he had slurred speech. The officer went to the man's house and began asking questions about the crash, but the man changed the story of how the crash happened repeatedly. He had slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and denied drinking anything but a can of pink lemonade, which he had just opened. The SUV involved in the crash was in front of the home with fresh damage. The man could not successfully complete field sobriety tests and had a 0.19 percent blood alcohol content. A more formal test given a short time after his arrest showed he had a 0.22 blood alcohol content, according to a report.

Marijuana Possession Ends in Arrest

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 16-year-old Grosse Pointe Park boy at . Officers were called to the school after school officials discovered the boy had marijuana and a pipe in his possession. His father was also present when an officer arrived and said he wanted his son arrested for the illegal drugs, noting he and his wife have been having problems with their son and his use of marijuana. He had 1.7 grams of marijuana, a pipe and an unidentified loose pill on him, which he declined to explain to officers other than it was an over the counter pill intended to help headaches given to him by a friend, according to a report.

Unconscious Driver Arrested For Cocaine Possession

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a woman found slumped over the wheel of her car in the parking lot Feb. 9 after passers-by called police about her. The responding officers found the woman unconscious inside a black SUV about 5 p.m. The woman had various drug paraphernalia in the SUV and in her purse. She also had several prescription medications belonging to two men. During an interview, the woman admitted to smoking crack cocaine that day but refused to tell the officer any more information. She was arrested, according to a report.

Cell Phone Reported Stolen

The mother of a student reported the theft of her daughter's cell phone from the gymnasium during a basketball game Feb. 7. School officials reviewed a surveillance video but were unable to determine who stole the cell phone, according to a Grosse Pointe Woods police report.
