Hartland's Kahuna Coffee annual ornament sale raised more than $1,900 for Erin Mead and her two children this holiday season.

With Christmas only days away, the community of Hartland once again came together to give one deserving family a special holiday.

With handmade, donated ornaments for sale at Kahuna Coffee, more than $1,900 was presented to Erin Mead and her two children on Friday morning.

β€œIt’s truly such a blessing,” Mead said.

Mead, a single mother of two, has been battling stage 4 Synovial Sarcoma, aΒ rare form of cancer since 2011.Β

Having to take time off work for treatments, the money raised will help fulfill some of the wishes on her children’s Santa list this year that includes Legos, Barbie dolls and two reindeer.

β€œI don’t know how I’m going to come up with the reindeer,” Mead said with a wry smile as her 4-year-old daughter also whispered that she would like a sleigh as well.Β

Mead was nominated for the local coffee shop’s annual Christmas donation in a special way, according to Kahuna Coffee owner CathyΒ Jones, who said theΒ spirit of the season seemed to speak to her through her customers whichΒ led her to Mead.

Through a series of events and after approaching a group of women at KahunaΒ one day, Jones explained they were searching for a deserving family and after a couple days, Mead was nominated.

β€œThe man who makes the ornaments, his whole goal is to give someone a Christmas who wouldn’t have a Christmas,” Jones said. β€œAnd when he read (Mead’s) story it was just a done deal.”

Mead, whoΒ will begin another round of chemotherapy after the holidays, said that allΒ her Christmas list included this yearΒ was spending some quality time with her childrenΒ and doing something special this holiday.

β€œWe’ve had some things happen since (the diagnosis), so this will really help make this a good Christmas for them before things get crazy again,” Mead said.

The Kahuna Coffee ornaments will be on sale through Christmas Eve and money raised will be sent to the Mead family.
