Have you ever wanted to try your hand at writing a Choose Your Own Adventure story? Now is your chance!
Beginning November 1st, we challenge you to write your own creative short story based on the prompt: “It was at that moment when I realized everything changed.” Each story should be a minimum of 200 words and a maximum of 5000 words, and should include one obstacle the character must face. If you’d really like to get into the Choose Your Own Adventure spirit, feel free to create and share two different endings that align with your obstacle. For example, if your character can choose between going to the movies or going to the mall, what would happen in both instances? When you submit your story, we can break these up into two different “branches,” or we can keep your whole story on one slide. Here are a few entries from last year where you can see both the single slide and multiple branch option.
Haven’t heard of Choose Your Own Adventure? Here is a brief history of this interactive storytelling format.
This contest is open to all ages, and a collaborative story with everyone's contributions will be made available on Cromaine's social media in December. All entries are due by November 30th, and a participant will be chosen at random to win a prize. For rules, additional details, and entry requirements, please check out this form. When your entry is ready, please submit it to youthandteen@cromaine.org.
For more writing inspiration, be sure to check out our CroNoWriMo Writer's Group, occurring every Monday in November. This is a dedicated time to work on your novel, get feedback on your writing, bond with fellow CroNoWriMo participants, and stoke your creativity to unleash the story inside of you. Games and prizes will be offered to help keep you motivated and on-track to finish your novel.
You can also put your knowledge to the test with a Writing-themed Trivia Tuesday video on Tuesday, November 16th!
Good luck, and happy writing!
