1. Livingston County man who broke into ex-girlfriend's home and killed man sentenced (clickondetroit.com) — A 24-year-old Howell man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for a 2023 shooting that killed a man inside his ex-girlfriend’s Howell home near West and Railroad streets. Jurors previously convicted him of first-degree murder, home invasion, domestic violence, and obstruction. Officials say the case involved prior break-ins, threats, and disturbing items later found in his car and a nearby river. 
2. Two hospitalized after head-on crash in Oceola Township (livingstondaily.com) — A 23-year-old Howell woman was critically injured when her car was hit head-on by a Jeep that crossed into oncoming traffic on Highland Road in Oceola Township. She and her passenger had to be freed by the Howell Area Fire Department and taken to U-M Hospital, while the Jeep’s driver suffered minor injuries. Deputies say alcohol is not suspected, but speed may be a factor.
3. Are national retailers closing Michigan stores? What they're saying in 2026 (freep.com subscription) — National chains like Kroger, Walgreens, Macy’s and GameStop are planning widespread store closures in 2026, and several already operate locations in and around Howell, including a Carter’s store in town. While companies haven’t said which Michigan sites will shut down, the article outlines which brands are downsizing so Howell shoppers can watch for possible local impacts.
4. More H&M Workers in Michigan Join Local 876 - The United Food & Commercial Workers International Union (ufcw.org) — Workers at the H&M store in Howell have voted to join UFCW Local 876, citing low pay, short staffing, and safety and harassment concerns. With support from already-unionized H&M staff in Detroit, the Howell team hopes collective bargaining will improve conditions and help build momentum for better standards at other Michigan locations.
