DNR Announces Support for Park Upgrades in 11 Counties in Michigan (theoutdoorwire.com) — Houghton is set to receive $1 million for Phase 2 development of Houghton Douglass Falls, part of nearly $12 million in DNR-backed park upgrades across 11 Michigan counties. The grant will support improved outdoor recreation access, alongside projects like new playgrounds, pools, and park improvements from Kalamazoo to Dearborn. 
2. Gremlins boys outpace Lakes, 86-31 (mininggazette.com) — Houghton basketball fans just watched a record-tying shooting performance at home, as sophomore Terrence Nolan drained 10 threes and scored 43 points in the Gremlins’ 86-31 win over Lake Linden-Hubbell. Coach Jared Lawson praised the team’s ball movement and defense, while Houghton now looks ahead to a road trip to West Iron County on Thursday.
3. Deer numbers down (mininggazette.com) — Hunters in Houghton County saw a sharp drop in deer harvests this year, with reported kills down about 31% compared to 2024, even as a doe and fawn still roam West Houghton neighborhoods. Statewide firearm-season numbers are off about 5%, and nearby Baraga, Ontonagon, and Keweenaw counties also report declines, though some are far less steep than Houghton’s.
