Here are the top three stories today in Lansing-East Lansing:
- Lansing-based nonprofit Lifeboat Addiction Recovery Services recently installed a vending machine that would disperse Narcan for free at the organization's facility on Michigan Avenue in Lansing. Narcan is a medication spread through the nose that is used throughout the U.S. to reverse opioid overdoses. The organization was able to offer free Narcan through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service via funding from the Mid-State Health Network. (WILX)
- State lawmakers here in Lansing reviewed a package of an 11-bill package of gun legislation on Thursday. The new legislation comes in the wake of recent shootings at Oxford High School and Michigan State University and includes Senate Bill 79, which would set specific storage requirements for storing or leaving a firearm unattended in a place where someone under 18 could access it. Opponents of that particular bill in the package say that such legislation would be impossible to enforce. (WWMT-TV)
- Michigan State University's men's basketball team celebrated St. Patrick's Day yesterday with a 72-62 win in its first-round NCAA tournament game versus USC. Fans took to the streets in East Lansing to celebrate, lining up as early as 4:30 a.m. at sports bars throughout the city with the intent to celebrate all day and into the night. (WILX)
