Here are the top three stories today in Lansing-East Lansing:

  1. The Lansing Police Department is asking for the public's help identifying suspects in a shots fired cases, armed robbery cases, and an auto theft case. LPD posted pictures of a suspect from am armed robbery investigation. The suspect is a Shipt employee who allegedly threatened a customer after they reported missing groceries. Several shots fired were reported around 3:00 p.m. on Mar. 12 near Moores Park and the Board of Water and Light plant. Police ask anyone with information to contact the department.   2. A witness said a local man was working on his car on the 200 block of Magnolia Street in Lansing when it fell on top of him. The witness then said he rescued the man, who was trapped under the car. The man is now in critical condition at a local hospital. Lansing police officers are investigating the incident, but said they are unsure of what happened. (WLNS)
  3. The East Lansing Human Rights Commission said it will pursue a complaint of racial profiling against the director of East Lansing Public Library. A mother of a Black teen told the Commission that the teen was falsely accused of trespassing at the library. Commission chair Liz Miller will send a formal letter to the library staff and said, “We take any allegations of violations of civil rights in East Lansing very seriously. That is the work of our commission and our charge from the city.” (WKAR)

  • Lansing Community College has an "ongoing cybersecurity incident" and suspended classes, events, practices and activities for Thursday, Mar. 16, and Friday, Mar. 17. LCC said there is no sign that employee or student personal or financial information has been compromised, but said they do not know everything yet. (WILX)
  • The Potter Park Zoo announced the birth of a female eastern bongo calf! The calf was born on Mar. 5, and is the second eastern bongo birth at the zoo since 2014 and only the fifth in the zoo’s history.⁠ ⁠(Potter Park Zoo via Facebook)
