Here are the top three stories in Lansing-East Lansing today:

  1. Michigan State University was selected on Monday as the host for the 40th Science Olympiad National Tournament to be held on May 24-25, 2024. The STEM competition brings in students from grades six through twelve from around the U.S. to complete, and MSU held the very first annual Science Olympiad National Tournament in 1985. MSU Interim President Teresa K. Woodruff, Ph.D., said of the decision, "As the founding university host for the Science Olympiad National Tournament, I am excited that we will once again welcome the science leaders of the future."   2. The East Lansing Independent Police Oversight Commission will be hosting a public hearing on Wednesday, Mar. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Michigan State University College of Law. The hearing will help residents learn more about police officer training in the use of force and is in response to a petition from the public asking for more information about the city's use of force training. The hearing will include presentations from national exports. (WILX)
  3. Michigan State University's Career Services Network is hosting a professional clothing drive from now through Friday, Apr. 28 to support its initiative to supply students with free professional clothing for job searching and professional events. The program is accepting donations from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Student Services Building and the Career Services Office on campus. (The State News)
