Here are the top three stories in Lansing-East Lansing today:

  1. Sparrow Health announced on Monday that its merger with University of Michigan Health is now officially finalized. The two healthcare systems announced the merger in December 2022, which aims to expand services and resources available to Mid-Michigan residents with an $800 million eight-year investment into Sparrow Health from U-M Health. Sparrow Health serves Mid-Michigan residents with more than 115 sites, including locations here in Lansing. (Fox 17 Online)
  2. East Lansing police released a composite sketch of a man who allegedly assaulted and attempted to kidnap a student at Michigan State University as she walked back to her dorm around midnight on Feb. 11. The incident took place on-campus on Shaw Lane by McDonel Hall, and the student was able to fight off the suspect, who fled. Anyone who can provide further information related to the sketch or the incident is encouraged to contact the Michigan State Police Lansing Post at 517-322-1907. (MLive.com)
  3. The Michigan State University Union officially reopened on Monday after school officials spoke with members of the MSU community who said they were ready to return. University officials planned for therapy dogs and support for employees and students to be available as part of the reopening. Vennie Gore of Student Life Engagement at MSU said of the reopening plan, “There are about 30 events that are going to be available for students in the next three-four weeks as we get closer to the end of the semester; and another 11 events that we have planned for the community. We are also saying to our staff that if you don’t want to come back, that’s okay, we will find other opportunities for them." (WLNS)
