1 Dead, 3 Hurt In Macomb County Crash Involving Drunken Driver: Police

A 36-year-old man is facing two charges in connection with the deadly crash, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI — One person is dead and three others were injured in a crash involving a suspected drunken driver in Macomb Township last Saturday, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened last Saturday night at 10:20 p.m. at the intersection of North Avenue and Rochelle Drive, just north of 21 Mile Road, according to the sheriff's office.

A 36-year-old man was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Impala south on North Avenue when it crossed over into the roadway's northbound lanes and crashed head-on into a 2010 Acura TL, according to the sheriff's office.

A passenger in the backseat of the Acura was killed and the car's driver suffered serious injuries in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

A third passenger in the Acura suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

Fox 2 Detroit identified the victim killed in the crash as 28-year-old Alex Tsatos, who was heading to a friend's birthday party along with two other friends Saturday night when the crash happened.

The driver of the Impala, whom police believe was driving drunk at the time of the crash, was also injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital where he is expected to survive, according to the sheriff's office.

Police also said they could smell alcohol coming from the 36-year-old man, who was driving the Impala.

The 36-year-old man was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing death and operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing serious injury. His bond was set at $500,000.

If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison for each charge.

Witnesses told police they saw the Impala drift into the northbound lanes where two vehicles managed to swerve out of the way to avoid a collision, according to the sheriff's office.

Moments later, the Impala smashed into the Acura, according to the sheriff's office.
