Alcohol Suspected In Fatal Macomb County Thanksgiving Day Crash: Police
A child was killed and three other people suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police.

BRUCE TOWNSHIP, MI — Police now believe alcohol may have played a role in a Thanksgiving Day crash that killed a child and injured multiple others in Macomb County.
The crash happened at 5:20 p.m. last Thursday on M-53 (Van Dyke Highway) and Ebeling Road in Bruce Township, according to police.
Investigators said the driver of a 2011 Chevy Impala was moving south on M-53 with his two young children when he crossed into the northbound lanes and smashed head-on with a 2013 Chevy Impala.

One car was able to swerve out of the way, but the one behind it, a 2013 Chevy, was struck head-on, police said.
The 5-year-old girl inside the Impala was killed in the crash. Police initially said the girl was 3-years-old.

The 2-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital where he continues to recover, police said.
The 18-year-old woman, who was driving the 2013 Chevy, was also taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. There was no update on her condition.
Police said neither child was properly restrained inside the Impala and that there was only one car seat in the car.
Police initially did not know why the driver of the 2011 Chevy crossed over the centerline, but not now they suspect alcohol. They were still waiting for medical examiner reports, lab results and further interviews before submitting their report to the prosecutor’s office.
