1 Dead In Macomb County Crash Involving Dirt Bike: Police

Police said a pickup driver tried using the opposite lane to pass another driver when the truck struck an oncoming dirt bike.

BRUCE TOWNSHIP, MI — One person was killed Monday night after a crash in northern Macomb County, according to Michigan State Police.

Troopers said a 55-year-old man from Imlay City was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck south on Brown Road near Reid Road in Bruce Township at 8:45 p.m. when he tried to use the northbound lane to pass another vehicle.

When the pickup swerved into the northbound lane, it struck a dirt bike that was moving north, according to police.

The 53-year-old dirt bike driver from Romeo was taken to a nearby hospital where the person died, according to police.

The pickup ruck driver was not injured in the crash, but investigators determined he was impaired while driving, according to police.

He was arrested in connection with the crash and placed in jail, according to police.

"Another family is mourning the loss of a loved one due to a preventable traffic crash," First Lt. Mike Shaw. "There are too many options available to get behind the wheel impaired. Please do not drink and drive."
