Boil Water Alert Lifted For Rochester, Nearby Macomb Co. Communities

Officials issued the alert after a massive water main broke Tuesday morning in Macomb Township.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI — Water is safe to drink again in Rochester and multiple Macomb County communities after two rounds of water testing came back clean Thursday.

"All testing has confirmed that the water is safe to consume and cook with and meets all Safe Drinking Water Act regulations," Great Lakes Water Authority CEO Suzanne Coffey said. "I want to thank the residents of the five impacted communities, as well as our member partners, for their patience throughout this challenging situation and as we worked to fulfill our obligation to protect the public’s health."

Chesterfield Township, Lennox Township, Macomb Township, New Haven and Rochester were under the alert after a water main broke around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning in the area of 24 Mile Road and North Avenue in Macomb Township.

Officials issued the alert because a sudden change in pressure in the water system can lead to bacteria contamination. Officials warned residents to use boiled water to kill any bacteria that may be present for drinking, preparing food, washing dishes, brushing teeth and making ice.
