Dakota High School Student Fatally Struck by Fellow Student While Walking To School
The 14-year-old victim was hit while crossing the street. The driver in the crash is a 16-year-old girl.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A Dakota High School student was struck and killed this morning while walking to school Friday, according to a news release. The 16-year-old female driver of the vehicle is also a Dakota High School student.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, 14-year-old Victoria Cartwright of Macomb Township was crossing Heydenreich Road at 7 a.m. this morning when she was hit by a southbound 2016 Jeep Wrangler. The driver is a 16-year-old Macomb Township girl, who attends Dakota High School. Another 16-year-old Dakota High School student was also in the Jeep during the crash.
The victim was taken to Henry Road Macomb Hospital, where she died from her injuries. Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham says Cartwright is the second student in five years who has been killed while walking to school.

Heydenreich Road (between 21 and 22 Mile roads) is closed, and traffic is being re-routed pending an investigation by the Sheriff's Traffic Crash Investigation Team.
