UPDATE: Dakota's Day Finishes Third at State Wrestling Finals

Greg Day of Dakota placed third at the state wrestling finals at the Palace.

UPDATED 3:38 P.M. SATURDAY: Dakota's Greg Day finished third at 140 pounds at the Division 1 state individual wrestling finals at the Palace.

Day defeated Kyle Witgen of Romeo 5-1 in the third-place match Saturday. Earlier Saturday, Day defeated Justin Zimmer of Ford 6-2.

Day's teammate, Kenny Seelye, placed seventh at 130 pounds. After losing to Joe Lombard of Wyandotte Roosevelt, Seelye defeated Tyler Kuch of Bay City Western 2-1.

In Division 3, Lutheran North's Eric Hecker finished eighth at 171 pounds.

UPDATED 9:01 P.M. FRIDAY: Greg Day's run at the Division 1 state individual wrestling finals at the Palace hit a bump when he lost to Monroe's Derek Davison in the semifinals at 140 pounds. Day lost an 8-6 decision, but he will compete in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

Dakota teammate Kenny Seelye stayed alive in the consolation bracket at 130 pounds with an 8-4 decision over Brighton's Christopher Brish.

Lutheran North's Eric Hecker also stayed alive in the consolation bracket at 171 pounds in Division 3 with a 5-4 decision over Scott Wirostek of Chesaning.

Day began the tournament by defeating Eddie Nuttall of Ypsilanti Lincoln on Thursday. Day then defeated Mike Babicz of Detroit Catholic Central on Friday.

Dakota’s lost his first match at 130 pounds, but he advanced with a 10-2 major decision over Steve Johnson of Monroe in the consolation round.

of Dakota was eliminated after losing both of his matches at 125 pounds.

Eric Hecker of won his first match at 171 pounds in the Division 3 state finals before losing Friday to Allendale's Jared Groeneveld. Hecker will face Scott Wirostek in the consolation round.
