Metro Detroit Mail Thief Caught Hiding In Dumpster After Police Chase: Cops
Police said the suspected thief crashed his car during the chase and tried hiding from officers in a dumpster.
LIVONIA, MI — A Macomb County man is facing charges in connection with mail fraud and hiding in a dumpster while running away from officers last month, according to police.
Al-Qaadir Walik-Rasool, 23, was charged with fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest and five counts of mail theft. The New Haven man was placed in jail with a $10,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 27.
If convicted, he faces up to two years for fleeing police, up to two years for resisting arrest and up to one year for each count of mail theft.

Police said Walik-Rasool was stealing other people's mail in Livonia during the early morning of Jan. 21 and Jan. 22. Witnesses told officers he was driving in a black Chevrolet Malibu, according to police.
On Jan. 23, Livonia officers found the car and tried to stop it, but the driver sped away, according to police.

As officers were chasing the car, the suspect driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed, according to police.
Walik-Rasool then got out of the car and ran away from officers, according to police.
Officers eventually found Walik-Rasool hiding in a dumpster and arrested him in connection with the incidents, according to police.
