Macomb Woman Refuses Police Orders, Claims To Be Sovereign Citizen: Police
Troopers stopped the suspected drunken driver on Interstate 94 in Detroit, according to Michigan State Police.

DETROIT — A suspected drunken driver is in trouble after she refused officers' orders during a traffic stop in Detroit on New Year's Eve, claiming to be a sovereign citizen, according to Michigan State Police.
The 54-year-old Macomb Township woman was stopped by troopers along westbound Interstate 94 near Interstate 75 at 10 p.m. after they suspected she was driving drunk, according to Michigan State Police.
When troopers asked the woman to get out of the car, she refused and claimed to be a sovereign citizen, who claim to be exempt from any U.S. laws, according to Michigan State Police.

After troopers tried multiple times to get the woman to exit the car, a trooper broke the driver’s side window and opened the door, according to Michigan State Police.
The woman then began pushing and pulling the troopers, but she was eventually arrested by troopers, according to Michigan State Police.

The woman was being held at the Detroit Detention Center while charges were pending. Officials were still waiting for a toxicology report to determine if she was driving drunk.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The FBI describes sovereign citizens as "anti-government extremists who believe that even though they physically reside in this country they are separate from the U.S."
