Man Fatally Struck By Car While Running Across Gratiot
The driver in the crash told police there was no time to stop or brake.
MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A tragic fatal pedestrian-vehicle crash happened at the close of Thanksgiving weekend, according to a news release.
On Sunday Nov. 27, at approximately 6:05 p.m., Chesterfield Township Police were dispatched to Gratiot, south of 21 Mile Rd. Responding officers discovered Ricky Jay Baker, a 60-year-old man with a last known address in Roseville, lying in the street injured. The victim was transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The driver in the crash, a 28-year-old Columbiaville man, told police he was driving home from work in his 2003 Buick when the victim attempted to run across Gratiot and ran right in front of his vehicle. The driver said there was no time to stop or brake and witnesses gave similar versions of the accident.

Police do not believe alcohol, drugs or speed were factors in the accident at this time.
