Man Seriously Injured After Becoming Trapped In A Macomb County Garbage Truck
The man was trapped in the back of the truck unbeknownst to the driver.
MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A 40-year-old man has serious injuries and is in a hospital after he became trapped in the back of a garbage truck while the driver went about his route early this morning, according to a news release.
Deputies with the Macomb County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Harrison Township Fire Department on a report that a man was trapped in the back of a garbage truck. Fire personnel were able to free the man and he was transported to McLaren Hospital with serious injuries.
The victim told deputies he was in a dumpster behind the United Methodist Church in Mt. Clemens when the truck arrived. The next thing he knew, he was stuck in the back of the truck, desperate for help.

Meanwhile, the Waste Management garbage truck driver, a 36-year-old Southfield man, told deputies he had no clue he was hauling around a man until a chance moment at McDonald's. Apparently, a few pick-ups into his shift, the driver pulled into a McDonald’s when he happened to glance at a camera monitor. There was the man’s arm waving from inside the back of the truck.
The driver put the pedal to the metal and headed for help at the Harrison Township Fire Department. The driver has been cooperative and no charges against him are expected.
