Massive Water Main Break In Macomb Township Forces Boil Water Alerts

Multiple Macomb County communities and Rochester were under the advisory Tuesday morning.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI — Multiple communities in Macomb and Oakland counties were under boil water advisors Tuesday morning after a massive water main break in Macomb Township.

The break happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning in the area of 24 Mile Road and North Avenue, leading to water pressure issues for residents in nearby communities, official said.

Under the advisory, residents must bring all water to a boil for at one minute and then let it cool before using. Boiled, bottled or disinfected water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food until further notice.

Residents in nearby areas that are experiencing low water pressure were also encouraged to follow the rules of a boil water notice, even if your area was not mentioned in Tuesday's advisory. A sudden change in water pressure can lead to bacteria contamination, officials said.

The advisory will be in effect for at least 48 hours while officials continue testing the water pressure.
