Part Of M-53 In Macomb County Closing Monday For 3 Months: MDOT

Here is what you need to know about the road closure.

All southbound lanes on Michigan 53 (Van Dyke Freeway)​ between 18 Mile Road to Michigan 59 (Hall Road)​ will close Monday for roughly three months for road and bridge work, officials said.

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI — All southbound lanes on Michigan 53 (Van Dyke Freeway) between 18 Mile Road to Michigan 59 (Hall Road) will close Monday for roughly three months for road and bridge work, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Eastbound and westbound Michigan 59 (Hall Road) ramps to southbound Michigan 53 (Van Dyke Freeway) will also be closed for construction work, officials said.

Southbound Michigan 53 (Van Dyke Freeway) traffic will be detoured to westbound Michigan 59 (Hall Road) to southbound Mound Road, then eastbound 18 Mile Road to southbound Michigan 53 (Van Dyke Freeway), officials said.

There will also be local road closures for bridge work on Michigan 53 (Van Dyke Freeway) at the following intersections:

  • Utica Road
  • 19 Mile Road
  • Canal Road

The work is part of a $16 million project on Michigan 53 (Van Dyke Freeway) between 18 Mile Road and M-59 (Hall Road) to resurface the roadway, perform concrete and guardrail repairs, repairs to 10 bridges and resurfacing the 23 Mile Road ramps to Michigan 53, officials said.
