Several Macomb Co. Schools Receive Bomb Threats, 1 Closed Monday: Cops

MACOMB COUNTY — At least one school canceled classes Monday after multiple Macomb County schools received bomb threats over the weekend, according to the sheriff's office.

School officials at Merritt Academy in New Haven announced on its Facebook page Sunday that the school would be closed Monday.

Though school officials didn't provide a reason for the closure in the post, the sheriff's office said it was one of multiple schools in the county that revealed a bomb threat over the phone.

Schools in Armada, Chesterfield Township, Clinton Township and Casco Township also received bomb threats over the weekend, according to the sheriff's office.

Although Monday is April Fool's Day, the sheriff's office said it will thoroughly investigate the threats.

A person who calls in a school threat could be charged with false threat of terrorism, which is punishable up to 20 years in prison, according to Michigan law.
