Washington Twp. Church Youth Leader Sexually Assaults Girl: Prosecutor
Prosecutors said the Macomb County youth leader gave the girl, 15, marijuana and coerced her to have sex.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A Washington Township church youth leader is facing charges after he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.
Luis Josue Mendoza, 29, of Clinton Township, was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person 13 to 15 years old (15 year felony), fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person 13 to 15 years old (2 Year High Court Misdemeanor) and contributing to the delinquency of a minor (90 day misdemeanor).
Mendoza was placed in the Macomb County Jail with a $250,000 bond. If released from jail, he must wear a GPS tether, have alcohol and drug testing, no contact with children under 18 years old and not be involved with any church youth activities. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 27.

Prosecutors said Mendoza was a youth leader at Stoney Creek Community Church in Washington Township, where he met the 15-year-old girl, gave her marijuana and groomed her before engaging in contact.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said Mendoza was no longer employed at the church.

"Today's arraignment underscores the gravity of the alleged crimes committed against a vulnerable 15-year-old girl," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said. "We are committed to seeking justice for the victim, holding the accused accountable, and ensuring the safety of our community, particularly its most vulnerable members."
